Bungalow Bathroom Reveal: A New En Suite with Timeless Character

This house started as a two-bedroom, one-bathroom bungalow — charming, but tight. From the beginning, I knew the layout had to evolve to fit the way people live today. We enclosed a small front porch and reworked the floor plan to create a true primary suite, complete with a walk-in closet and this bathroom. The goal was to make it feel like it had always been here — not like a new addition, but a natural extension of the home.

One thing I was sure of from the start: arches. They bring such a softness and sense of intention — the kind of detail that makes a space feel special. I wanted the room to feel calm and layered, with thoughtful contrast and modern touches that didn’t overpower the character of the home.

Originally, the plan was black and white tile with a black vanity. But as we started laying out the tile for pattern placement, it didn’t feel right. It looked bold, but not grounding — not the tone I was going for. I paused everything and gave myself space to rethink. The next day, I stopped into Floor & Decor and spotted this soft, floral-patterned tile. It had a warmth and quiet beauty to it that immediately clicked. I hesitated — changed plans like this aren’t always easy — but I trusted my gut.

We bought everything they had in stock and sent a team member on a quick road trip the next day to pick up the rest from another store. That decision ended up anchoring the whole room.

The fluted vanity from Lowe’s brings in subtle texture and keeps things playful. Paired with Studio McGee x Kohler shower fixtures in a soft gold, the palette feels elevated but approachable. The chrome sink faucets add contrast, and the arched shower entry echoes the bathroom doorway to keep things cohesive.

The mirror gives just the right amount of personality, and the overall mix — creamy walls, layered finishes, and intentional detail — feels exactly like what I hoped for in a primary: calm, clean, and quietly refined.

This bathroom didn’t follow the original plan, but that was the story here. The shift brought the calm, layered feel I was after — and made the space feel like it was always meant to be here. Sometimes the best moments come from a small pause and a simple pivot.

This was a special one — I’m glad you’re here for it. More to come as I continue sharing the layers of each space, along with the most requested sources and links.
